Healthy Mind, Body and Spirit

Annie Hartwright has worked in the care sector for over 35 years, and became interested in holistic healing therapies about 16 years ago after going through a very traumatic time in her life.

Nowadays, Annie, who is based in Abergavenny, is a qualified Reiki Master/Teacher and a member of the UK Reiki Federation and qualified as a Crystal Therapist in 2008. Here, she explains various alternative therapies that can help our wellbeing on a body, mind and spiritual level.

I came across Reiki, (or Reiki came across me) and I decided to take a leap of faith, and find out more about it. The name ‘Reiki’ derives from a two part Japanese character, which translates roughly as Universal Force Energy. Reiki Principals are:

  • Just for today
  • I do not worry
  • I am not angry
  • I honour everyone around me
  • I earn my living honestly
  • I show gratitude to every living thing.

According to the traditions of Eastern medicine, Ki is the unseen energy, which fills the universe and animates all living things. It is the same energy that flows through the conduits (Meridians) of the body – without Ki nothing can heal or grow.
Applying Reiki to the body is a gentle but powerful way to support and enhance the Life Force Energy in a living thing.

I have always been fascinated by crystals, and the amazing way in which they produce positive results in people’s physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Crystal have been around for millions of years and Crystal Therapy is an ancient art originating, some believe, in Egypt thousands of years ago. Others believe it is even older, with its roots in the ancient civilization of Atlantis or possibly Lemuria.

Crystal Healing consists of laying of gems on the body over the chakra points. Each chakra resonates to a particular colour, so by laying the gem of that colour over the chakra, the chakras open, align and blend in an even flow with one another.

When the chakras are balanced, the physical body is able to innately self-correct and heal.

I am constantly investigating new therapies, and when I was introduced to the Amethyst Bio-Mat, I knew instinctively that it was the right addition to the therapies I would offer.
Amethyst is known as a power crystal with prolific healing powers. It is purifying, pacifying and transitional. Amethyst is a healing stone and contains sobering and calming qualities. It is used to treat and heal the central nervous system.

The Amethyst Bio-Mat brings together the use of Amethyst crystals as well as two other components, which benefit health and wellbeing; Far infrared rays and Negative Ions.
The Bio-Mat’s FIR penetrate the body to cellular level, thus correcting imbalances and being 200 times more bio-compatible when conducted though Amethyst Crystals. The heat generated through the mat encourages cell repair and regeneration, induces relaxation and the extreme feeling of calm.

The Bio-Mat is FDA registered, and is based on a Nobel Prize winning scientific research pioneered by NASA. The gentle warmth of the mat provides an overall massaging effect, soothing jangled nerves and knotted muscles with natural healing, and cleansing the body.
