Focus Magazines The local magazines for Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Brecon & Talgarth – Events, News and Advertising

Local storyteller and author Daniel Morden will be enthralling young and old alike on August 27th and 28th at Tretower Court and castle.

Daniel, resident in Abergavenny, has travelled the world telling traditional stories, from the Arctic to the Pacific to the Caribbean. He is often to be found entertaining children in local primary schools, and has written seven anthologies of stories for young people.

At Hay Festival this year he was awarded the Hay Medal by HRH the Duchess of Cornwall.

This minifestival is programmed by Beyond the Border International Storytelling Festival in conjunction with Cadw and The Year of Legends. BtB was founded at St Donat’s castle in the Vale of Glamorgan in 1993 to celebrate traditional storytelling and ‘bring Wales to the world, and the world to Wales’

Daniel said, ‘Beyond the Border always pull out the stops to create a wonderful weekend for visitors. And this summer they are bringing some of their magic to us! A storytelling festival at Tretower is a perfect match. When I walk through the gates it feels as though I am travelling back in time. It is such an evocative venue that half my work is already done.

On the Sunday I will be sharing the stage with local fiddler Oliver Wilson-Dickson. It is always a pleasure to perform with him. We have been working together ever since we met at a folk club in Gilwern in 1993!’

Amongst others on the bill are Indian storyteller Peter Chand, author Horatio Clare and acclaimed world music band Baka Beyond.
