Fairtrade Fortnight 2018

The Abergavenny Fairtrade Forum is excited to announce that our town council have just renewed their commitment to Fairtrade.

Great news as the celebration of the 10 year anniversary of Abergavenny’s Fairtrade Town status draws to an end. We’re closing with one long party! It happens to coincide with Fairtrade Fortnight 2018 where we’ll be promoting all things Fairtrade at breakfasts, coffee mornings, pancake lunches and much more!

Fairtrade Fortnight 2018 officially runs from 26th Feb to 11th March and, though we’re stretching the definition of fortnight a little with an event on Shrove Tuesday, we have a full diary.

We’ve listed a few highlights but you can keep up to date with the full programme on Facebook (@AbergavennyFT), by signing up to our email newsletter (email or taking a look at our display in Red Square tourist information window.

It’s a shocking fact that millions of poor farmers who produce the food we love still don’t earn enough to feed their own families. It’s time for this injustice to end.

Through Fairtrade, millions of poor farmers and workers are already coming together to demand a change. They are working hard to close the door on exploitation and transform their communities, supported by Fairtrade.

The Fairtrade Fortnight theme this year is ‘Come on In’.  We welcome you to our events putting a spotlight on trade. When trade is fair it has the potential to improve the lives of the farmers and workers who grow our food. When trade is fair, it can make the world a better place.  ‘Come on in’, learn more and be part of the difference.

Events include:

  • Pancakes at the Methodist Church, Tuesday 13th Feb, 12.30- 1.30.
  • Coffee Morning at Christ Church, North Street, Thursday 1st March, 10:30- 12:00.
  • Fairtrade Breakfast at the Abergavenny Community Centre, Friday 9th March at 10.00 am.
  • Coffee Morning at Abergavenny Library, Saturday 10th March, 10:00-12:00.
