Monmouthshire Museums Supporters Scheme

Earlier this year, Monmouthshire County Council’s Museum Service received a grant of £23,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to set up and launch the Monmouthshire Museums Supporters Scheme. The aim of the Scheme is to help to raise much needed funds for the museums run by the county’s Museum’s Service in Chepstow, Abergavenny and Monmouth, as well as helping to encourage closer working with the community.
The Museums Service is delighted to announce that the Supporters Scheme is now fully up and running.

The Scheme is offering a wide range of benefits in thanks for a regular donation towards the work of the Museum’s Service.  They include a special quarterly e-newsletter, discount in the museum shops and invitations to special events and viewings.

Money raised through the Scheme will be used to support the work of the Museums Service including expansion of the learning programme, conservation of the collections and development of new exhibitions and activities. It will also help to ensure that the museums can remain free entry.

The scheme will be run through The Monmouthshire Museums Development Trust which has been established to support the county’s important heritage and museum sites.

You can pick up an application form in any of the 3 museums or request one to be sent to you by emailing supportmuseums@monmouthshire.gov.uk  Membership to the Scheme could make a fantastic Christmas gift too!

The museums in the care of the county’s Museum Service are vital to preserving the history and stories of our county. Alongside our impressive local history collections we also hold important national collections related to Charles Rolls, the Wye Valley Tour Artists and of course Nelson!

Commenting on the award, Joanne Terry, Museums Fundraising Officer said: “We are thrilled to have received the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and are confident that the project will help us to build stronger relationships with our community. We’ve been delighted with the response to the Scheme so far. Many people understand our need to fundraise and have been very generous with their support. We hope that they enjoy the benefits and look forward to seeing them regularly at our museums!”
