A football club in Abergavenny will renovate its clubhouse facilities after receiving the backing of an East Wales housebuilder.
Persimmon Homes East Wales has chosen Abergavenny Town FC to receive £1,000 as a part of its Community Champions initiative, which gives away £2,000 each month to good causes in the region.
The funds will be put towards the renovation of the club’s base on Hill Road. Kevin Hudson, vice chairman at Abergavenny Town Football Club, said: “Our club provides football for junior boys and girls, as well as senior men and ladies and we’re sure that everyone will make great use of our new facilities.
“We also allow U3A – a group of retired people- to use the clubhouse during the week so it’s sure to have a big impact in the community.
“At present we have a dozen dedicated committee members who are happy to give their time and effort to complete this work.
“We can’t thank Persimmon enough for this generous donation.”
Victoria Williams, sales director at Persimmon Homes East Wales, said: “Abergavenny Town Football Club give hundreds of people in the community the opportunity to play football.
“They are a real Community Champion and we’re sure their new clubhouse will be greatly received by all that use it.
“Our scheme gives charities and community groups from across East Wales the chance to apply for up to £1,000 of funding. It has been a hugely successful initiative which has allowed us to support more than 20 good causes already.
