Well this is a first for me! Our new kind of normal means that Hannah is currently furloughed, so it’s my job to look after the magazines solo. Don’t worry, she isn’t twiddling her thumbs – she’s busy home educating our five year old daughter and working on her own writing projects!
Normally you’d find me working behind the scenes, laying out the magazine and designing our clients’ adverts, so taking the editorial helm is a new one for me, (don’t worry; Hannah won’t let the power get to me.)
This is our second e-magazine version of the Abergavenny Focus and the first of the South Powys Focus. As you’ll see, it all looks exactly as it would if it were arriving through your letterbox. The only difference is that it occupies online space instead – and hyperlinks work – I’ve underlined those so it’s easier to see what’s ‘clickable’. We really hope you’ll enjoy it just as much as a printed mag and that you’ll support our fantastic advertisers in just the same way as you typically would.
This month we have a celebratory feature all about VE Day, which takes place over the weekend beginning 8th May. As you’d expect, there were many events planned both locally and nationally to mark the 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe, and most of those have had to be postponed or cancelled. Here at the Focus we thought it would be fun to create a feature all about celebrating VE Day at home. We’ve got some great articles for you to enjoy, including a wartime vinegar cake recipe, a tutorial from Hannah Mlatem on how to create a Victory Rolls hairstyle, a guide on how to make your own VE Day bunting to hang in your windows or garden and lots more. We’d love to see your photos so that we can share these online. Send them to us at firstname.lastname@example.org
We also have plenty of articles about life in lockdown for you to read too, so why not pull up a chair and settle in for half an hour or so with your favourite monthly read?
Until next month stay safe and keep well.
